The end of May … and so the vacations and nothing more to do – a list of things for September
Vacations, May, Thursday Corpus Christi and another long weekend, and in mind already the end of school and vacation trips. A well-established annual pattern. Once the Baltic Sea and Masuria, now Turkey, Egypt and Greece, and for some, exotics and faraway travel. Understandably, no one thinks about specifics anymore – now you have to go on vacation. Industry conferences are somehow lazy and watched with less interest; everyone knows… that nothing will happen anymore, and you must wait until September.
In the meantime, we’ve forgotten many things that were supposed to happen before.
A little reminder…
The NERP (National Energy and Climate Plan) – theoretically, it was supposed to be already in 2023 (EU requirements), but it appeared as a preliminary draft (and only in a base version; two and the so-called ambitious version are required) – all to somehow meet the requirements of the EU. The full versions (both) were promised by the end of next month, then maybe May, now it appears late June/early July. And it is known that in July, everyone is on vacation, so September or October is the earliest.
Mining and notification of the social contract and state aid are required to transfer more billions to the sector. The topic has gone quiet. The Ministry of Industry is always working on it, but the result will probably be after the vacations: either notification or reorganization and the end of the Ministry of Industry.
The windmill law, was supposed to be very fast, but now slower. Not even by the end of the month anymore, but by the end of the year. The year is not given.
Nuclear power plant financing model—may be a contract for difference. This is the holy grail of nuclear energy on which the relevant Departments are constantly working (I remember asking about it at the First Nuclear Energy Congress 2023, and “it was already in the final stages of preparation”). Since then, a big step forward has been made, and something will probably be known “in the next quarter”—the next quarter after the vacations, of course.
FTE (Energy Transformation Fund) – the flagship promises to transfer to the power industry what the power industry pays (ETS) after deducting a tribute of 60%. The deadlines have not been mentioned lately, which means the FTE is stuck for good, showing that 100% is always better than 60%.
… each of the industry’s energy chambers can also add some of their points.
For a change – one thing was introduced – quickly and with the full consent of parliamentarians – price freezes (here also post-holiday) and an energy voucher. This shows that regardless of political options, there is complete consensus on the energy transition – difficult decisions are postponed, and the focus is on non-market regulation and populist subsidies. This is an unchanging state for the next few (dozen?) years.
Due to the need to adapt to these general trends – the next episode of the Satirical Energy Review (No. 21) will appear… at the end of next month. After all, you also have to go on vacation.
